I recently bough this camera as an upgrade for my Canon A620. It is pretty much the same camera, except is has better specs and new features such as the image stabilizer. One of the selling points for me on this camera was the 6x optical zoom, which is a rarity in the point-and-shoot cameras. It is usually 3x. The only features that are present in my older Canon that I wish this one had is the Color Accent/Color Swap feature and I also wish there wasn't such a long delay between shots when using the flash.

The software that comes on the thumb drive is easy to remove using the tool from Sandisk's website. USB drive is very light weight, which is good for carrying in pocket, but could break easily. Write speed seems normal. 800 MB file transferred in about 40-50 seconds.

Having just gotten back into photography after a decades long absence I bought the XSi 4 months ago. It has been an excellent purchase. If you are new to dslr's I would recommend taking a class at your local junior college in how to use one. It helped me understand what one of these cameras can really do and has really improved my enjoyment using the camera. The pictures I've taken with the XSi have been amazing and the kit lens with the IS feature is top notch. Don't get swayed by all the hype you read online about dslr's and invest in one that costs thousands, the XSi is a great camera at a great price that will give you anything you want in picture quality.

After having my original Rebel stolen, I replaced it with the Xsi. The shutter speed is super fast, the viewing screen is huge so you know right away if you got the shot, and the quality of indoor pics is fantastic. The battery charges quickly and lasts a long time. I previously owned a measly point and shoot camera, so upgrading to this camera was a huge jump for me. it took some time getting used to, but once I've learned was quite easy to use. i shoot manually without (much) trouble now.
The lens that came with this camera was pretty crappy (EF-S 18-55mm USM). You should definitely get a better lens for the full experience. I recently bought Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 for pretty cheap and it takes the most amazing pictures with this camera

Not what I expected. Case has to be removed before the camera can be used. The case is just about large enough to fit the body and an 18mm-55mm lens-larger lenses won't fit. There are no external or internal pockets for extra SD cards or batteries. Not even well padded. Big price for a useless product.

After reading the details on the Fuji website, I decided to wait for the release date and order this new product rather than get the S1000. I was mainly attracted by the High Definition video and the zoom capability with video. I've only had it for a few days, so this is a preliminary review which I will probably update after I've had a little more time to put it through its paces.
I generally agree with everything the first reviewer said about the camera, although it doesn't feel cheap or flimsy to me. Certainly not at this ($275.00) price point.
If you don't already have two or three sets of rechargeable batteries, prepare to make the investment. At least while you are learning to use all of the features, you are going to be draining AA's four at a time with breathtaking speed. Nevertheless, the fact that a camera with this many bells & whistles uses a common battery size you can purchase anywhere was one of the dealmakers for me. Once I am more familiar with the operation and options settings I expect I will not be using up the batteries quite so fast. Fuji says 400 shots with rechargables, 300 with Alkalines, and 600+ with Lithiums.
The little rubber cover for the USB/HD connectors makes me wonder about its durability. It's a little hard to pull open all the way (maybe that will loosen up a bit with more use), and I worry that one overly energetic yank will either break the tiny cord that attaches it to the camera or pull it out completely. Be careful with this.
The optical 15x zoom with video does work well (except for the motor noise which does get faithfully recorded on the soundtrack). It is selectable for optical or digital zoom, so if you can't live with the noise, you can work around it. The digital zoom with video is quite limited, though: only 2x at VGA or lower and only 3x in HD.
For still pictures the 15x zoom is extremely impressive, and when combined with the digital zoom you can get over 85x total magnification. With the dual image stabilization switched on, I have taken handheld pictures in bright sunlight at the maximum zoom and gotten useable -if not razor sharp- images. I think Fuji have done a really good job with this. You'll see things in your photos that you can't make out with the naked eye. You have optical zoom capability in macro mode, and digital zoom only in "super" macro.
The HD video looks really good, but one caveat. If you're planning on watching the videos on your computer, you're going to need a relatively powerful system. I think Fuji says at least a Core2Duo @ 2GHz or higher & 1 Gig of RAM minimum. I have a first generation MacBook with a 2GHz CoreDuo and 2GB of RAM, and the HD will play soothly in Quicktime, but only if the "high quality video" option is disabled in the program preferences. Otherwise it's choppy. Whether it's activated or not I am unable to see any difference in the "quality" of the images, the only difference is the smoothness of the playback.
If I have anything I consider a negative, it's this: Fuji seems to be eliminating the included AC power adapters and sockets on their cameras. I have a FinePix 6800Zoom and it has a socket that you can directly plug into, but for this far more power hungry camera you have to buy a separate AC adapter and a separate adapter to connect THAT to the camera. (Yes, you read that correctly.) Combined cost for these gizmos is over $60.00 currently, and seems a bit steep to me. Especially since they imply that you should use an AC adapter when connecting the camera to a computer. If you need it for proper operation, it ought to be included, seems to me. How much would it have cost them to just put a socket connector right on the camera? With volume manufacturing I can't imagine that it would have been more than a few pennies. Then you would only be out the $25 or so for the AC unit.
That point aside, I like it very much, so far. Recommended.

I purchased this product in July 2008 and have been trying to make it work ever since. I've got hundreds of vacation photos saved on the flash drive that I may never get to see. The camera refuses to communicate with any computer. Olympus tech support is only open during business hours when most of the world is at work which makes it useless to me. I've owned several Cannons in the past with no troubles. For some unknown reason I decided to give Olympus a try. Never again. I'll probably just throw it away having learned an expensive lesson:
NEVER BUY ANYTHING WITH OLYMPUS WRITTEN ON IT.

I bought this camera after my larger SLR was stolen out of my car. I wanted something with image stabilization, lots of megapixels, and as much optical zoom as I could afford. This camera really has it all. I'm really impressed with the amount of zoom it's got for a camera of its size.

The Canon PowerShot Sd89OIS is a very capable little digital camera. Its generous 10 megapixel resolution, combined with a sharp zoom lens provides excellent images and accurate colors. My only complaint is the tiny size of the power (on-off) button. Although I have small hands I have great difficulty accessing the button to turn on the camera. To help alleviate this problem I glued onto the button a rectangular piece of plastic to provide a raised surface, and it has proven to be of great help. However, there's no excuse why such an important button should be so inaccessable.

Customer Review: works well, but full frame show imperfection
On my full frame 5d there is a significant amount of vignetting, but that was rather expected being so much less expensive than the canon 24-70 L. Bought it because i am on a tight budget, and I dont regret it. Even with the vignetting- its still woth saving the 600+ dollar difference.
Customer Review: Good value for the money!
This was my first non Canon lens purchase, granted the other lenses I've owned has been cheaper Canon lenses (kit lens, 50mm and 28-135mm).
I've never owned an L so I can't compare it to those but here are my impressions:
Price: Can't beat it, its a 2.8 like the better L lenses out there and for a fraction of the cost. Love it!
Noise: Really can't say that its that noisy as I've heard people complain. Again I have not owned an L's so in my limited experience with lenses, its not noisy, nothing I'd consider loud enough to disturb a wedding ceremony or anything of the sorts.
Focusing: It's as fast as my 28-135mm, so not bad, its fast enough to catch my kids running by, get them in focus and me snap the picture.
About the focusing, I did notice mine had a bit of trouble with front focusing, but works well now when I've got that taken care of.
I really haven't had opportunity to test it in the conditions it was built for but so far I've been impressed with it.
Its not really bulky, it seems solidly built even if its not L quality.
The pictures I've taken so far has been crisp and clean and bright, really I cant complain, again a great lens purchase. I can't wait for them to come out with a 70-200mm 2.8 version so I can buy that as well.
If you are a pro with L's in your camera bag you might or might not like it. However if you're a serious hobbyist or working-to-be a pro then this is a good start for a fraction of the cost of an L. Its a nice lens and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Customer Review: Lens adapter and hood
Works well with my Canon Powershot S5 IS. Though I did find a seller on the net who has the metal adapter alone for a much cheaper price so ended up getting two more adapters through that site to use with my filters and lenses. Its much quicker to change out the filters and lenses by having an adapter on all of them rather than screw on a different filter or lens on one adapter to change them out.

We recently returned from a month long trip, my wife has a Canon A540 and I was using a Sony DSC700. There is no comparison in the quality of photo's between the two cameras...we both shot several hundred photo's...the Canon photo's won hands down! So I purchased a new Canon A580 and we both love it. Plus now the the SD cards can be used in either one...Sony uses a proprietary duo-card....Canons for us from here on out.

I have had this camera for a month now. When I first opened it I didn't really like it. My first thought was that the screen was pixelly and so that made me think my photos wouldnt be that good. But my photos turn out great. A few other things I noticed was the view finder is just a small screen inside the camera that duesn't help very much. But two days in of having it I start really liking it. The photos are great and the settings are all good. I did buy this camera because I didn't want to spend much money but wanted a really good camera so this is what I found. And it works fine for me. It was also pretty easy for me to learn how to use it. So I would say its a pretty good camera.

The Fuji S700 is an easy-to-use camera, affordable and the pictures are fantastic!
I looked at the Fuji S1000, it is a 10mp where the S700 is a 7mp and there is no comparison. The S1000 has a lag with the shutter speed and it does not have an extended viewfinder.
Having a choice of a viewfinder or a screen was important to me and since I would rather use the viewfinder, the batteries last longer.
For years I have used a 35mm film camera and had no problem switching to this great digital camera.
